Since I (Stephanie) have been out of work, I've had a good amount of time on my hands. In between the job hunting and the 'doula hustling' (which does take up a good deal of time) I've been using my creative side. It has been wonderful! I love getting lost in projects, and I'll have to admit, I really do love not working. It's very easy to fill my day with my sewing machine, hammer and nails and a kitchen. I'm soaking it all in now, as we all know this won't (and financially cannot) last long.
Here are a few things I've really enjoyed making these past few months:
Branch Necklace Holder. Check out this (incredibly easy!) tutorial over at Simple Design.
Felt Garlands! I really enjoyed making these...mostly because they are so easy and come out so attractive. I got the idea from this post, also from Simple Design: DIY party garlands. I love how a garland can really liven up a room.
Scrap Fabric Banner. I didn't have the funds to go buy any fabric, so I used fabric I had to put together a simple garland. I look forward to the day when I have my own 'sewing room' and shelves of organized beautiful fabric...and I can still pull this banner out each autumn remembering when Tim and I lived on a shoe string budget in Brooklyn. The memories that this one banner holds!
Our makeshift closet. We think of the Jennings' each time we access this simple little closet.
Our Christmas tree! We collected a few fallen pine tree branches from Prospect Park and put together a little tree. I'm so glad we brought our (very small) box of Christmas decorations. It's nice to have a little bit of home here with us, bourbon included.
I also worked on a pine cone garland, delicately hanging above our large front window, a few different scrap t-shirt headbands, and some warm batches of a few new soups and cookies. Short cold days of winter + crafty projects = a warm and happy heart.

I love it! You two are making a home there, so good to see. Miss you guys! I think I might try to make a pinecone garland. Let me know how yours turns out.

Yes, it feels nice to come home to our little room after a long day away :) The pine cone garland came out real nice...it was just tedious. The pine cones I collected had a lot of sap on the outside of them, and they were super messy. I also did not have the proper supplies (i left a lot in Louisville) so I improvised which made it more difficult. Make sure you use floral wire, which you can pick up at the dollar store, or JoAnnes. Good Luck!
